At St. Joseph’s Catholic Primary School, we believe that Science should inspire curiosity, wonder, and a lifelong love of discovery. Through Science, children are encouraged to ask questions, explore the world around them, and develop the skills they need to think critically and work scientifically.
We follow the Developing Experts programme, which provides a clear, knowledge-rich curriculum that builds children’s scientific understanding step by step. Each unit introduces key concepts through engaging lessons, high-quality resources, and interactive activities. The programme also places Science in context, showing how it connects to the real world and the wider community, including links to careers in science, technology, and engineering.
Our Science teaching develops children’s knowledge across the key areas of biology, chemistry, and physics, while also fostering important enquiry skills such as observing, predicting, testing, and evaluating. Lessons are designed to be practical, hands-on, and engaging, giving pupils the chance to experiment, investigate, and apply their learning in meaningful ways.
At St. Joseph’s, we want our pupils to leave primary school with not only a secure understanding of scientific knowledge but also with the confidence and curiosity to continue asking big questions about God’s world. Science learning here is about nurturing inquisitive minds, developing problem-solvers, and preparing children to see themselves as the scientists, innovators, and explorers of the future.
