At St. Joseph’s Catholic Primary School, we believe that learning a Modern Foreign Language opens doors to new cultures, broadens horizons, and inspires a lifelong love of language. French is taught across Key Stage 2 using the CGP+ programme, which provides a clear, structured approach to language learning. Each unit introduces a new theme, allowing children to develop their skills step by step in a fun, engaging, and purposeful way.
Through CGP+, pupils build confidence in spoken French by practising key vocabulary, questions, and phrases in interactive activities. They also develop their written French through exercises that strengthen grammar, sentence construction, and vocabulary recall. To make learning enjoyable and memorable, children are regularly engaged through song and rhythm, which help reinforce pronunciation and fluency.
Our approach ensures that children not only learn to communicate in French but also gain an appreciation for French culture and traditions. By the time pupils leave St. Joseph’s, they are well-prepared with a strong foundation in language learning and the confidence to continue their studies at secondary school.
At St. Joseph’s, we see language learning as a gift – an opportunity to celebrate diversity, connect with others, and deepen our understanding of the wider world.
