Religious Education

At St. Joseph’s Catholic Primary School, Religious Education is at the heart of our curriculum and daily life. As a Catholic school, we are committed to nurturing children’s spiritual, moral, and intellectual development, helping them to grow in faith and to live out the Gospel values in all that they do.

We follow the Religious Education Directory (RED) using the programme To Know You More Clearly. This provides a rich, structured, and inspiring approach to RE that is rooted in Scripture and the teachings of the Church. Children are encouraged to engage with key theological concepts, reflect on their own experiences of faith, and develop a deeper relationship with God.

Each unit of study is carefully designed to build knowledge and understanding in a progressive way. Pupils explore the Bible, Catholic traditions, and the lives of the saints, while also being invited to question, discuss, and reflect. Lessons are interactive and creative, making use of drama, art, music, and discussion to bring learning to life and to help children see the relevance of faith in today’s world.

Through To Know You More Clearly, pupils are supported in developing not only their religious literacy but also the skills of critical thinking, empathy, and respect for people of all faiths and none. RE at St. Joseph’s is about more than knowledge – it is about forming young people who live with compassion, integrity, and a strong sense of purpose.

At the centre of all we do is our mission: to guide every child to know God more clearly, to love Him more dearly, and to follow Him more nearly in their daily lives.

Parents have the right to withdraw their child from all or part of RE.
