Sports Premium Strategy

Inspiring a lifelong love of physical activity

At St. Joseph’s Catholic Primary School, we believe that every child should have the opportunity to be active, develop their physical skills and experience the benefits of sport. Our Sports Premium funding enables us to enhance the quality of PE, physical activity and school sport across the school.

We use the funding strategically to develop high-quality PE teaching, increase participation, provide opportunities for competition and encourage children to develop healthy, active lifestyles.

High-quality PE

We invest in the professional development of staff so that teachers have the knowledge, confidence and resources to deliver engaging and progressive PE lessons. Our PE curriculum provides children with opportunities to develop a wide range of physical skills while building their understanding of teamwork, tactics, fair play and personal improvement.

Physical activity for all

We want every child to find ways to enjoy being physically active. Sports Premium supports opportunities for children to be active beyond their PE lessons, including lunchtime activities, clubs and wider opportunities to participate in sport.

We particularly value inclusive opportunities that enable children of different abilities and interests to participate, develop confidence and experience success.

Competition and school sport

We provide children with opportunities to represent St. Joseph’s and participate in competitive and non-competitive sporting activities. Through festivals, tournaments and inter-school events, children learn the importance of teamwork, perseverance, resilience, respect and sportsmanship.

These experiences help children understand that competition is not simply about winning, but about challenging ourselves, supporting others and achieving our best.

Developing our Learning Powers

Sport provides a powerful context for developing our Learning Powers. Children learn to persevere when something is difficult, collaborate with others, respond positively to setbacks and reflect on how they can improve.

Our SMART Values are embedded throughout our sporting provision. Respect, teamwork, responsibility and encouragement are central to the way we participate in physical activity and represent our school.

A lifelong commitment to wellbeing

Our ambition extends beyond primary school. We want children to leave St. Joseph’s understanding the importance of regular physical activity and equipped with the confidence, knowledge and positive attitudes needed to make healthy choices throughout their lives.

Through our use of Sports Premium funding, we aim to ensure that every child has the opportunity to be active, develop their talents, enjoy sport and experience the physical, social and emotional benefits of an active lifestyle.
