Ensuring every child can thrive

At St. Joseph’s Catholic Primary School, we are committed to ensuring that every child thrives. Our Pupil Premium Strategy reflects our belief that every child, regardless of their background or circumstances, should have the opportunity to achieve their very best.

Pupil Premium funding is used strategically to address barriers to learning and participation. We take a whole-school approach, using evidence, professional knowledge and our understanding of individual pupils to identify the support that will have the greatest impact.

Our approach focuses on three key areas:

High-quality teaching

We believe that the strongest way to support disadvantaged pupils is through consistently excellent classroom teaching. We invest in high-quality professional development, effective assessment and targeted approaches that help teachers identify and address gaps in knowledge and understanding.

Targeted academic support

Where appropriate, pupils receive additional support that is carefully matched to their needs. This may include targeted intervention, additional reading support, small-group teaching, precision approaches and opportunities to practise and consolidate key knowledge and skills.

Wider strategies

We recognise that educational success is influenced by much more than academic attainment. Our strategy therefore considers barriers such as attendance, wellbeing, behaviour, engagement, access to enrichment and family circumstances. We work closely with pupils, families and external partners to provide appropriate support and remove barriers wherever possible.

Our Pupil Premium provision is closely connected to our Learning Powers and SMART Values. We want every child to develop not only academically, but also as a confident, resilient and compassionate member of our school community.

As a Catholic school, our commitment to disadvantaged pupils is rooted in our belief in the dignity and uniqueness of every person. Through Catholic Social Teaching, we are called to promote fairness, inclusion and opportunity, ensuring that those who may face greater barriers receive the support they need to flourish.

We regularly review the impact of our strategy through assessment, attendance information, pupil voice, staff feedback and wider school evidence. This enables us to adapt our provision and ensure that Pupil Premium funding is used thoughtfully and effectively.
