Celebrating our Catholic identity, faith and mission

At St. Joseph’s Catholic Primary School, our Catholic faith is at the heart of everything we do. Guided by our mission that “everybody thrives”, we strive to create a welcoming, inclusive and nurturing community where every child is valued, loved and encouraged to achieve their God-given potential.

The Catholic Schools Inspectorate (CSI) evaluates the Catholic life and mission of Catholic schools, including the quality of Religious Education and collective worship. Inspection provides an opportunity to celebrate our strengths, reflect on our provision and identify ways to deepen the Catholic character of our school.

Living our Catholic mission

Our Catholic identity is much more than the Religious Education we teach. It shapes our relationships, decisions, curriculum and daily experiences.

Inspired by the teachings of Jesus Christ, we encourage children to demonstrate compassion, kindness, forgiveness and respect. Our SMART Values and Learning Powers help children put their faith into action, developing the knowledge, attitudes and behaviours needed to make a positive difference in the world.

Catholic Social Teaching is woven throughout school life, encouraging children to recognise the dignity of every person, care for God’s creation and understand their responsibility to others.

Religious Education and prayer

Religious Education is central to our curriculum. Through the Religious Education Directory, To Know You More Clearly, children develop their knowledge and understanding of the Catholic faith while exploring important questions about belief, meaning and purpose.

Prayer and liturgy are integral to our school community. Through daily prayer, celebrations of the Word, Mass and opportunities for reflection, children are encouraged to develop their personal relationship with God and participate meaningfully in the prayer life of the Church.

Working together in faith

We recognise the importance of strong relationships between school, home and parish. Working closely with Our Lady and St Joseph’s Parish, the Diocese of Brentwood and Christus Catholic Trust, we seek to strengthen our Catholic community and provide meaningful opportunities for children to live out their faith.

We are committed to continually developing our Catholic life and mission, ensuring that Christ remains at the centre of our school.

Our aspiration is that every child leaves St. Joseph’s with a strong sense of belonging, a commitment to serving others and an understanding that they are uniquely created, valued and loved by God.
